Open rates = vanity.
Reply rates = signal.
An opened email means they saw your subject line. A reply means they actually engaged with the idea.
I call this The Ping Pong Principle.
Your email should invite a volley, not end the rally.
Here's how to engineer replies:
→ Ask a real question. Not rhetorical. Something you actually want answered.
→ Create a low-friction response. "Reply with YES if this resonates" works better than "Tell me your thoughts on this complex topic."
→ Write like a person. Formal emails don't get replies. Emails that sound like a friend checking in do.
→ End on curiosity. Leave a small open loop. Something that makes hitting reply feel natural.
The inbox is crowded. The reply box is empty.
If you want to stand out, stop optimizing for opens. Start optimizing for conversations. That's where deals happen.
P.S. Reply with your current email sign-off and I'll tell you if it's killing your reply rate (and how to fix it).
